Sports Roundup: October 25, 2024

The fall high school postseason is underway, with all but one of Bromfield’s varsity teams scheduled for championship matches this coming week. The season has ended for golf, but the field hockey, and boys and girls soccer teams were set to compete in the Central Mass. Athletic Directors Association tournament matches at home and away.

The teams that have chosen to compete in CMADA playoffs have been sorted into classes of eight or nine teams according to school size and location. The top four teams in each class—as determined by their Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association power ranking—get to compete for their class championship. The remaining teams get to play two so-called non-playoff or consolation matches, one at home and one away. The outcome of every CMADA match counts toward a team’s final MIAA power rank, which in turn determines whether it gets to compete in their sports MIAA postseason tournament.

The boys soccer team has qualified for the Class B finals and was set to play a semifinal match against Tyngsborough at home Thursday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. The field hockey and girls soccer teams will play consolation games.

The boys and girls cross-country teams have chosen not to participate in the CMADA tournament this year but will race in this weekend’s Midland-Wachusett League championship in Winchendon, where they are expected to excel.
