The Littleton/Bromfield Tigers ice hockey players are state champions.
In a dominant performance Sunday night at the TD Garden in Boston, the Tigers defeated St. Bernard's 5–1 to claim the program's first-ever Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 boys ice hockey state championship, capping a remarkable 24–1 season.
The offense was relentless from the puck drop, led by two goals apiece from Littleton senior captain Gavin Werling and Littleton sophomore Blake Hannon, while Littleton senior captain Andrew Archer added a crucial final goal to round out the scoring.
Bromfield senior captains Liam and Conor Glew continued to drive the Tigers’ success, providing clinical playmaking and assists. Bromfield junior Cael Piekos anchored the blue line throughout, and Bromfield sophomore Kelly Logan's energy up front was a constant thorn in the Bernardians' side all night.
In goal, Bromfield senior captain Jacob Dangel was composed and commanding all night, sealing the win. "I'm very grateful for the opportunity," Dangel said. "Not many people can say they did that."
The Tigers did not make the trip alone. A sea of green-clad fans packed the Garden's lower bowl, with students leaning into the St. Patrick's Day theme in full force, and giving the Tigers something that felt like a home crowd on ice hockey's biggest stage in Massachusetts. For the Tigers and their Harvard-based head coach, Kevin Lizotte, the Garden trip ends with the hardware they’ve long chased.
