The Bromfield School boys and girls track and field teams each tied for 22nd place at the 2026 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 6 Track and Field Championship held May 28 and 30 at Westfield State University in Westfield.

Bromfield sent 13 athletes to the meet and came away with multiple medals, two second-place finishes, and a new school record, replacing one that had stood for 25 years.

Athletes from 48 schools competed in the boys division, won by Abington with 76 points; 47 schools competed in the girls division, won by Ayer Shirley with 71 points.

Rosie Bradley was the day’s standout performer for Bromfield, finishing second in the 2-mile in 11 minutes 12.36 seconds, a time that qualified her for the MIAA All-State Championship scheduled for June 6 at Merrimack College in North Andover.

Bradey followed with a medal-winning eighth-place finish in the 1-mile and anchored the girls 4x800-meter relay team to a seventh-place finish, posting season bests in all three races. Head coach Marisa Steele said Bradley has been running stronger with each race and looks ahead to the 5K race at Nationals in mid-June.

The most dramatic moment of the meet belonged to the boys 4x800-meter relay team. Running against one of the most competitive fields of the day, Harrison Binnick, Christian Johannesen, Liam Kemeza, and Kai Kemeza finished second iwth a time of 8:14.08, shattering the 25-year-old school record of 8:16.57. Binnick opened with an aggressive leg that placed the team in solid second position, which Johannesen and Liam Kemeza maintained heading into the anchor leg. With a pack of runners from Parker Charter, Ayer Shirley, Monomoy, and Bromfield bunched together in the final 200 meters, Kai Kemeza, a 10th-grader, ran stride for stride with the lead pack before being edged at the finish.

All four runners posted their best times of the season, with Liam Kemeza recording a 2:00.7 split, just off the two-minute barrier. “It’s unusual for all four runners on a relay to run their best on the same day,” Steele said. “The three seniors on this relay have been gunning for this school record since they were in eighth grade. It’s a wonderful way to close out their high school careers.”

Other medalists included Cole Maddalone, who tied his personal best with an 11-foot vault to finish seventh in the pole vault; Kai Kemeza, who took eighth in the 1-mile in 4:27.74, a five-second personal best; and the girls 4x800 relay team of Bradley, Wool, Jacquie Wilkins, and Vivienne Cogan, who finished seventh.

Several nonmedalists also turned in performances worth noting, Steele said. Wool posted personal bests in both the 1-mile and 2-mile and contributed a strong leg to the girls relay. Eighth-grader Flora Poutasse competed in the 400-meter hurdles for only the fourth time in her career and lowered her personal record by nearly three seconds, a sign, Steele said, that she will be a threat in the event as she grows into it. Kai Kemeza rounded out a remarkable day, shaving 17 seconds off his personal best in the 2-mile, logging two strong individual races on top of his 4x800-meter relay anchor leg.

Three Bromfield seniors will carry their track careers into college next fall: Bradley to UMass Lowell, Binnick to the Rochester Institute of Technology, and Liam Kemeza to Connecticut College.
