Working group to review recommendations for Devens housing April 1

The Devens housing working group is scheduled to hold its third and penultimate meeting Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m., in the Vicksburg Conference Room at 33 Andrews Parkway, Devens. The eight-member panel is expected to review draft recommendations for more housing in the Innovation and Technology Center district of the former U.S. Army fort.

The in-person meeting is open to the public, and public comment is welcome. Since the group last met, the leaders of the group’s three subcommittees have been preparing a set of recommendations due the Legislature May 20 this year.

Chris Kluchman of the Office of Liveable Communities and Housing leads the subcommittee exploring innovative solutions for building affordable and sustainable housing. Neil Angus, director of the Devens Enterprise Commission, heads a “Devens fundamentals” subcommittee, documenting current conditions and zoning. Laura Scott, who represents the Devens Committee and the select boards of Ayer, Harvard, and Shirley, leads a group investigating the impact additional housing will have on Devens residents and surrounding communities, as well as the opportunities a growing residential community could create.
