RFK Community Alliance receives $4,115 Allison Keller Education Technology grant from Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism

Press release submitted by RFK Community Alliance

RFK Community Alliance is pleased to announce it has received a $4,115 Allison Keller Education Technology grant from the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism for the Doctor Franklin Perkins School (DFPS). These funds will provide state-of-the-art classroom technology to support approximately 70 students on the autism spectrum in grades K-12 annually and will enrich the learning experience of students with ASD, who are tactile and visual learners.

RFK Community Alliance serves students with complex needs, including a large number of students with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Classroom technology greatly enhances the ability to facilitate group learning, with interactive display boards providing clear, bright learning visuals for classroom instruction and opportunities for students to interact with the technology throughout the lesson. Through this funding, RFK Community Alliance will be able to purchase an interactive display board for classroom use, which will directly benefit students with ASD and other complex needs.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will support our middle school students with ASD,” Chief Academic Officer Cindy Wing, said. “In a world driven by technology, it is important that we have the proper technology tools for our students and educators to access, which will complement their learning here at DFPS.”

"The Flutie Foundation Allison Keller Education Technology Grants help our partner agencies address a variety of significant needs in the autism community," says Nick Savarese, Executive Director of The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. "Programs like these are helping people on the autism spectrum live life to the fullest and we are proud to support their efforts.”

The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, based in Framingham, MA, awards grants annually through a competitive application and review process. The Allison Keller Technology Education Grants that the Flutie Foundation distributed this year fill the financial gap in meeting technology needs of schools and organizations to help people and families with autism live life to the fullest.
