Bromfield’s fall sports season began this week. Athletic Director Dave Boisvert reported that as of Labor Day weekend, 221 students had signed up for a middle school, junior varsity, or varsity team. “It’s our biggest season,” he told the Press in a late August interview.
Harvard is fielding six varsity teams this year, competing against Central Massachusetts schools with similar programs in the Midland-Wachusett League. They are:
- Boys and girls soccer (Mid-Wach C League)
- Boys and girls cross-country (Mid-Wach C)
- Field hockey (Mid-Wach D)
- Golf (Mid-Wach C)
The fields are in good shape, Boisvert said, in spite of an early summer drought. It has been unnecessary to rent neighboring fields for tryouts or preseason practices. “They greened up nicely.”
The soccer and field hockey teams have new coaches. Evan Woodworth, a physical education teacher at Hildreth Elementary School, is coaching the varsity girls soccer team this fall, while Mickey Fitzgibbons will coach the field hockey team, following the retirement of longtime coach Sue Silver. Fitzgibbons coached the junior varsity team during the 2023 season.
