In a very busy week, the Ambulance Service responded to 15 calls and transported eight people to the hospital, seven with Advanced Life Support services on board. The ambulance responded to five motor vehicle crashes and provided one lift assist.
Outdoor fire ban: Given the very dry weather conditions, Fire Chief Rick Sicard imposed an outdoor fire ban in town until further notice. The ban includes fires in fire pits, solo stoves, chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, and other cooking and heating equipment that is not specifically covered under the state’s open burning regulation.
Wednesday, Oct. 30
At 5:10 a.m. the District 8 Task Force, including firefighters from Harvard, was called to a brush fire involving more than 100 acres in Middleton; firefighters were on the scene for at least 13 hours. At 11:23 a.m. the Fire Department went to the Bromfield School again to free two people trapped in a stuck elevator. At 11:54 a.m. firefighters were called to clean up diesel fuel leaking from a car parked on Elm Street.
Thursday, Oct. 31
At 5:05 p.m. a smoke machine that was part of a Halloween celebration set off a smoke alarm at the Congregational Church.
Friday, Nov. 1
At 10:25 a.m. the alarm at the Congregational Church went off again, this time because of a malfunction in the sprinkler system.
Saturday, Nov. 2
At 10:55 p.m. firefighters responded to the one-car crash on Ayer Road at the parking lot near Sorrento’s.
Sunday, Nov. 3
At 1:41 p.m. a passerby called 911 after smelling smoke in the air near the intersection of West Bare Hill and Still River roads. The duty officer found an illegal outdoor fire smoldering and told the homeowner to put it out. At 2:29 p.m. a caller reported the smell of smoke on Lancaster County Road, and the duty officer found another illegal fire burning outdoors; the forestry truck and the tanker were called to extinguish it. At 8:18 p.m. Littleton called for mutual aid with a fire there, and Engine 4 covered the Littleton fire station for over an hour.
