The fall postseason continued this week with Central Mass. championship meets for field hockey, cross-country, and soccer.
The boys and girls cross-country teams swept the Midland-Wachusett Class C championships at Lake Dennison State Park Saturday, winning both races. Senior Evelyn Wool won the girls race, setting a new course record; sophomore Ben McWaters won the boys race. For the boys, it was their fourth straight championship; for the girls, their third.
The field hockey team tied its opponents in both Central Massachusetts Athletic Coaches Association consolation games. With a Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 5 power rank of 31 as of Oct. 25, the team seemed likely to qualify for the state tournament, which is open to the division’s top 32 teams. Tournament brackets were to have been announced Oct. 29.
The girls soccer players won both of their CMADA Class C consolation games, the first against Doherty Memorial and the second against Notre Dame Academy. Ranked 12th by the MIAA among Division 5 teams as of Oct. 25, the girls are assured of a bracket in the upcoming state tournament.
As for the boys soccer players, they tied Tyngsborough in their CMADA Class B semifinal match and lost to perennial rival Sutton 2-1 in the Oct. 29 Class B final. The two are likely to meet again as both make a run for the MIAA D5 state championship in November, in which Sutton was ranked second and Bromfield fourth as of Oct. 25.
Finally, the Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowing teams ended their season in Saratoga, New York, last weekend, where rowers competed in the Head of the Fish Regatta. The meet advertises itself as one of the largest in the country, attracting more than 160 teams and 1,600 crews from across the Northeast.
