My name is Richard Cabelus of Pinnacle Road. I am a candidate for the Select Board, and I am kindly asking for your vote this May.
I love Harvard and hope to serve my community in this role. My wife Amy and I have lived on Pinnacle Road since January 2018 after moving here so we could live closer to her family who are lifelong Harvard residents. We purchased our home one month after getting married at the General Store in 2017. Amy and I have found this community to be a great place to raise our family, with our daughter at Hildreth Elementary School, and my stepson at Bromfield.
As I believe strongly in community involvement, I have served on the Planning Board, serving as chair for two years, and I also have been on the Historical Commission for seven years. Further, I have also previously served on the Harvard-Devens Jurisdiction Committee as Planning Board rep. I have coached youth basketball in town, attend town events, and regularly attend Town Meeting.
I am an immigration attorney helping out families, individuals, and companies in the ever-changing immigration landscape. Before that I was a public school teacher, teaching history at Brockton High School for several years.
I am acutely aware of the economic issues facing our town and the structural imbalance we currently face. We successfully took measures to address this at the Planning Board, but we have serious challenges ahead to reconcile continued projected revenue shortfalls while maintaining essential town services that residents deserve. We further have to tackle other compelling issues like housing, appropriate business growth, recreational fields, and of course maintaining educational excellence.
I believe my record in town has demonstrated I have been a steward on these causes. I have worked constructively and collaboratively with numerous town boards and committees and with our elected and volunteer residents in government.
I ask you to support me for Select Board.
