It’s said often that Harvard runs on volunteers. They’re what make our town government and many civic organizations possible, and they’re the power behind such iconic events as Harvard’s celebration of Independence Day.
The Fourth of July Committee remains short of volunteers for this year’s big event, especially cleanup after the parade and field events. For a list of the committee’s needs, go to www.harvard4thofjuly.org/volunteer, where you’ll also find a signup form.
This year’s big celebration is only days away and for those new to town, it’s worth saying it’s possibly the most popular community event of the year. If you can’t volunteer, the best way to support the committee is to simply show up and join the fun. Buy a Fourth of July T-shirt. Enter your child in the bicycle decorating contest. Join your neighbors to watch the parade. Attend the flag raising at the library. Purchase lunch at the Lions Club tent. Enter a multigenerational field event. And if you’re a runner, don’t miss the Great Harvard 4th of July Road Race. (See Current Events section on page 6 for times.)
The Press will be present to document this year’s festivities in words and full-color photos, a parting gift before we begin a four-week summer break. Hope to see you there.
