Police Log: May 19 to 25, 2026

In the past week, police made 76 motor vehicle stops, 40 resulting in verbal warnings and 35 in written warnings or citations. Officers also helped one person locked out of a car, checked on three disabled vehicles, made two well-being checks, and responded to one false burglar alarm.

Tuesday, May 19
At 9:22 a.m. an officer called the Department of Public Works about a street sign that was obscured by vines on Jacob Gates Road. A few minutes later, another officer reported the same problem on St. John Lane. At 5:09 p.m. an officer served a court order at an Ayer Road address. Over the next two hours, officers responded to four calls about downed tree limbs or wires on Finn and Stow roads and Warren Avenue. Officers were able to deal with all but the fallen tree blocking Warren Avenue; the DPW was notified of that one. At 7:07 p.m. a Still River Depot Road resident called with suspicions about a man who had come to her door saying his car was out of gas. She loaned him a gas can but also notified police. An officer checked and found the man’s car was indeed out of gas and so gave him a ride to a gas station and back. At 7:26 p.m. there was a two-car crash on Route 2 eastbound; state police had jurisdiction.

Wednesday, May 20
At 5:24 p.m. an Old Littleton Road resident called to report a possible case of fraud. At 5:28 p.m. police received a call about an erratic driver near the intersection of Stow and Eldridge roads; the caller said the driver is in the area about the same time every day. At 6:02 p.m. someone reported a tree or branch down near the intersection of Old Mill and Ayer roads; the DPW removed it. At 6:12 p.m. another fallen tree was reported on an electric line on Tahanto Trail. National Grid was notified. At 7:53 p.m. the DPW was called when a sewage alarm went off in a building on Ayer Road.

Thursday, May 21
At 12:18 a.m. on Ayer Road, a 22-year-old man from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, received a summons for operating with a suspended license, failing to stop, and having no registration in his possession. His car was towed, and an officer gave the young man a ride to a motel. At 7:48 p.m. a driver on Old Shirley Road called 911, saying another driver had been tailgating and flashing their lights at him and then passed at high speed, headed toward Ayer; Ayer police were notified.

Friday, May 22
At 3:13 p.m. the harbormaster called police, saying one of the lifeguard boats had been untied and left drifting; police were asked to review the video footage from a security camera at the pond. At 5:57 p.m. a caller asked police to check on a car that had been parked all day on Prospect Hill Road; no further information was available.

Saturday, May 23
At 12:44 a.m. an officer checked on a car parked at a business on Prospect Hill Road; the car belonged to a cleaning crew there. At 11:08 a.m. an alarm went off at the Hildreth Elementary School. Police found one door was unlocked, and it had been opened by a child playing nearby. A key holder reset the alarm. At 10:55 p.m. there was a two-car collision on Route 2 westbound; state police had jurisdiction.

Sunday, May 24
At 7:40 a.m. a 911 caller said another driver on Route 2 had been swerving wildly and had almost hit the guardrail before exiting onto Ayer Road. State police transferred the call to the Harvard Police Department, but the car had left the area. At 4:13 p.m. a 911 caller reported a fallen tree blocking the road near the intersection of Stow and Codman Hill roads. The DPW was called to remove it. At 9:11 p.m. a caller told police his car had run out of gas on Ayer Road. An officer gave him a lift to a gas station and back.

Monday, May 25
At 7:44 a.m. a Candleberry Lane resident called to report a man walking on the road. The caller found it suspicious that the man was walking without a dog. At 2:41 p.m. on Shaker Road a large tree was reported to have fallen on several wires; National Grid was called. At 4:11 p.m. Harvard police helped Boxborough officers deal with an unwanted person at a Spencer Road address. At 4:37 p.m. yet another downed tree was reported blocking one lane of Slough Road.
