Bromfield distance runners collect gold, silver, and bronze at Mid-Wach D league championship

Bromfield’s track and field athletes made their presence felt at the Midland-Wachusett Division D Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet on May 20 at Gardner High School, with the girls team placing third among six schools in the league with 95.33 points.

Ayer Shirley Regional dominated the girls competition, winning with 153.33 points, but Bromfield’s distance runners performed impressively on the track. Rosie Bradley, a senior, won both the 800-meter and 1-mile races, posting times of 2 minutes, 28.16 seconds and 5:13.10. Sophomore Abby Wool captured first place in the 2-mile with a time of 12:24.03.

The girls 4x800-meter relay team of Gabriella Temps, Jacquie Wilkins, Vivienne Cogan, and Flora Poutasse was also first in its event with a time of 10:57.88.

In the sprints, Ashley Aftosmis placed third in the 100-meter with a time of 13.74, while Sienna Schulz placed fourth at 13.85.

The boys team finished sixth overall with 38 points, with Clinton taking the championship title with 174.5 points. Bromfield’s boys squad saw strong performances from the Kemeza brothers in distance events, with Kai Kemeza placing third in the 800-meter and second in the 1-mile, while the 4x800-meter relay team of Harrison Binnick, Liam Kemeza, Mathias Holzmann, and Micah Wiebe secured second place with a time of 8:43.57.

Next up for Bromfield’s qualifying athletes is the state championship at Westfield State University scheduled for Thursday, May 28, and Saturday, May 30.
