A coalition of local firefighters and caregivers who serve or work at Nashoba Valley Medical Center announced Friday they will hold a press conference in Ayer on Monday, June 3, calling on leaders of state government to preserve the hospital. 

In a Wednesday, May 15, filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Steward Health Care laid out a timeline and “global bidding and auction procedures” to sell its Massachusetts hospitals, including the Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer.

After two rounds of no responses to a request for proposals to lease land from the town for construction of a cell tower on land just west of Hildreth House, five bidders responded to the town’s latest request.

Two scuba divers will begin pulling invasive milfoil and fanwort from Bare Hill Pond’s swimming area, beginning the week of Monday, June 10. The one-week job will be completed in plenty of time for this year’s summer programs at the town beach, which begin July 1.

Through a combination of town money, private donations, a state Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant, and much hard work, 39 acres of farm fields and forest on Littleton County Road are becoming Harvard’s newest conservation land.

As the last item on their Tuesday, May 21, agenda, Select Board members voted 4-0 to support extending the lease on Bromfield House as a residence for two Afghan refugee families for another five years.

Harvard is poised to receive a total of $620,574 from opioid settlement agreements reached with companies whose business practices contributed to the country’s epidemic of opioid addiction. That amount is far higher than neighboring towns will receive.

An Open Meeting Law complaint against the Select Board, filed April 24 by Harvard Press editor John Osborn on behalf of the Press, has been resolved to the Press’ satisfaction.

The Select Board approved the Town Administrator Search Committee’s recommendation to appoint Chris Frechette and Joe Theriault as its two citizens at large at a meeting held just before Special Town Meeting, May 14.
