On a perfect summer morning, June 8, several members of the Garden Club of Harvard gathered in front of Town Hall to donate a granite planter, filled with red, white, and blue flowers, to the town, represented by Dawn Dunbar, interim town administrator, and Julie Doucet, executive assistant. The donation is in honor of the club’s 100th anniversary in 2027 and also celebrates the nation’s 250th. Bill Loehfelm, president, spoke about the founding of the club by Mary Abbot and how it carries on her goals of education, conservation, and joy in gardening.
The planter was the idea of member Mary Ann Piasecki who, along with Kathy Jackson has chaired the club’s civic beautification committee for many years. The large planter, with the club name and “est. 1927” engraved in black letters, was made and installed by DiMeco’s of Lancaster to complement the building.
