As the richest days of summer unfurl and the August heat rolls on, the crops of local farms continue to grow, ripen, and beg to be chosen. Hopefully some more good rain will continue to nurture their growth. Here is a look at what is available in Harvard this coming week.
Carlson Orchards

Carlson Orchards is bustling as the summer fruit and berry season progresses. This week, pick-your-own peaches, nectarines, blueberries, and zinnias daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. White Lady and John Boy peaches are ready to pick, as are Emeraude and Brigantine nectarines. Create a fresh-cut bouquet of zinnias and sunflower blooms. The Farm Stand is also open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is well stocked with Carlson’s peaches and nectarines, local vegetables and corn, fresh flower bouquets, baked goods, doughnuts, and more.
Doe Orchards

Blueberry picking season is still on. As are pick–your-own yellow and white peaches and Ginger Gold, Gravenstein, and early Honey Crisp apples. Ginger Gold is a sweet apple, while Gravenstein has a tartness suitable for baking. New apple varieties will become available each week through the fall. Summer picking hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Good Spirits Farm

This summer Good Spirits Farm is offering a wider range of products at their stand, with each week bringing something new as the season unfolds. Their website lists organic blueberries and raspberries, snap peas and snow peas, farm fresh eggs, honey from their own bees, homemade jams and herbal teas, hand creams and lip balms, and many varieties of fresh flowers.
Old Frog Pond Farm

The Farmstand is filled with fresh organic peaches, our own honey, a variety of fruit jams, herbal teas, beeswax candles, nettle salt, and East Fork pottery, all available for purchase. The farmstand is open every Wednesday. to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Westward Orchards

Plenty of fresh, locally grown produce is available at Westward Orchards. Blueberries, blackberries, yellow & white peaches, Shiro plums, cherry tomatoes, red slicing tomatoes, nectarines, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, Snow Leopard melon, and watermelon are on sale at the stand. Broccoli, peas, corn, beans, red and green cabbage, summer squash, cukes, pickling cukes, zucchini, eggplant, beets, kale, collard greens, Romaine and Bib lettuce, red fingerling potatoes, shallots, and a selection of herbs and fresh vegetables for sale. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Willard Farm

Cucurbit Farm of Acton has a beautiful selection of fresh vegetables and potted flowering plants available at Willard Farm in Still River. Produce available includes butter and sugar corn, tomatoes, green peppers, eggplant, zucchini and summer squash, pickling cukes, as well as many potted flowers and herbs.
