The disclosure that all town department heads will be required to spend the week between Christmas and New Year’s responding to written budget questions from the Select Board and Finance Committee came near the end of this week’s annual all-boards meeting, presumably to give the town’s fiscal overlords time to get to their cars before their tires were slashed.
What if a department head has travel plans for the holidays? Children, grandchildren, and/or aged parents coming to visit? No matter: Other FY20 budget deadlines might have been changed because they were impossible to meet, but this one seems firm.
But in solidarity with the town’s beleaguered department heads, we’re sure all the Select Board and Finance Committee members have canceled their holiday plans as well, and will spend the time gearing up for the busy budget season ahead.
