Police Log: October 15 to 21, 2024

In the past week, police made four motor vehicle stops, three resulting in verbal warnings and one in a written warning or citation. Officers also checked on three disabled vehicles, made a well-being check, and responded to two false burglar alarms.

Tuesday, Oct. 15
At 8:44 a.m. a 911 caller reported a crash on Route 2 eastbound; state police had jurisdiction. At 5:38 p.m. a caller reported another crash on Route 2, this time in the westbound lane. At 6:25 p.m. someone called to say a dog was loose on West Bare Hill Road.

Wednesday, Oct. 16
At 6:57 a.m. there was a crash on Route 2 eastbound, from which one person was taken to the hospital. At 11:31 a.m. a West Bare Hill Road resident called, asking to speak with the animal control officer. Also at 11:31 a.m. someone came to the police station to report a case of identity theft. At 8:27 p.m. a 911 caller reported a loud noise in the area of Orchard Hill, saying it sounded like an earthquake; police said there were no reports of a power outage or other unusual event.

Thursday, Oct. 17
At 12:51 p.m. someone came to the station to report her daughter had been followed by a car. At 5:22 p.m. the sound of a glass breaking in the kitchen set off a burglar alarm at a Pinnacle Road home.

Friday, Oct. 18
At 10:15 a.m. someone came to the police station about a case of harassment. At 3:49 p.m. a caller said there had been a crash on Ayer Road, but police found no sign of the event. At 4:19 p.m. a caller reported a case of fraud. At 10:12 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident told police someone had knocked on the door four times; police searched the area but found no one. At 10:31 p.m. a Bolton Road resident called 911 to report a person had come into the caller’s home without permission. The intruder was described as a heavy-set man wearing black tights, a black skirt, and a red shirt. The 35-year-old Harvard man received a summons charging him with entering a house at night for a felony and putting a person in fear.

Saturday, Oct. 19
At 1:56 a.m. an officer checked on a parked car on Ayer Road, but found the driver was just making a cellphone call. At 12:11 p.m. someone called 911 to say a man had walked into an Ayer Road business, saying someone had tried to kidnap him. He said he had shot the would-be kidnapper and left him bleeding in a car outside. The caller told police the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When police arrived, there was no sign of the alleged kidnapper or his car; the accuser was taken to a hospital. At 12:49 p.m. a caller said a car might have hit a cat on Ayer Road, but the animal had run off into the woods; the animal control officer was notified.

Sunday, October. 20
At 1:33 a.m. an officer checked on a car parked on Lancaster County Road, but found nothing amiss. At 4:42 a.m. a 911 caller reported a deer had been hit on Route 2 eastbound; the state police were notified. At 1:05 p.m. a caller said a person was using a metal detector and digging in an area on Still River Road.

Monday, October. 21
At 1:47 a.m. there was a crash on Route 2 westbound; state police had jurisdiction. At 12:17 p.m. a Willard Lane resident reported her husband was missing and his heart monitor was going off; but the call was canceled when the husband was found at home alive and well. At 3:58 p.m. downed wires were reported near the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Pond Road.
