Fire and Ambulance Log: July 2 to 8, 2024

The Ambulance Service responded to 10 calls and transported five people to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support services on board. The ambulance was called to four motor vehicle crashes.

Wednesday, July 3
At 12:41 p.m. a carbon monoxide detector went off at a Littleton County Road home; but the alarm stopped before firefighters arrived, and their meter detected none of the gas. At 8:56 p.m. a drone was launched near Bare Hill Pond to watch for illegal fireworks.

Thursday, July 4
At 8:14 p.m. the Fire Department launched its drone again. Around 10:21 p.m., the drone team saw that a boat from which fireworks had been set off was now itself on fire. The burning boat was unoccupied, but people in other boats were trying to put out the fire. The Harvard fireboat was launched from the town beach area. Its crew located the boat, where the fire was already out, but fireworks packaging was visible. Because of concerns about unexploded fireworks, the state police bomb squad and the state Department of Fire Services were notified. Bomb technicians inspected the boat and confirmed its contents were not hazardous. The event is under investigation.

Saturday, July 6
At 1:55 p.m. a 911 caller reported a fire alarm sounding at an Ayer Road building. The duty officer went to the scene but found no sign of smoke or fire that might have set off the alarm.

Sunday, July 7
At 12:06 p.m. Engines 2 and 4 went to a Blanchard Road home where someone had reported smelling gas. The crews found no gas in the building, but they shut off the propane and suggested the owner have the system serviced.

The police and fire logs are written by a Press reporter based on dispatch logs and interviews with police and fire staff.
