In the past week, police made 48 motor vehicle stops, 34 resulting in verbal warnings and 14 in written warnings or citations. Officers also checked on three disabled vehicles and responded to four false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, June 30
At 11:30 a.m. a number of callers reported a manhole cover lying on Ayer Road, where a truck had apparently popped it loose. Police returned it to its proper place. At 1:09 p.m. someone told police about a sinkhole near the intersection of Littleton County and Cleaves Hill roads. The Department of Public Works was notified and put a barrel over it. At 8:01 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident asked for help from the animal control officer in getting a bat out of the house.
Wednesday, July 1
At 10:46 a.m. someone called 911 after becoming lost during a walk in the woods and coming out on a different road. An officer gave the person a ride back to their parked car. At 5:25 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident again needed assistance with a bat in the house; the animal control officer was informed. At 5:34 p.m. a 911 caller reported a crash on Interstate 495 southbound; state police had jurisdiction.
Thursday, July 2
At 6:12 a.m. a 911 caller reported a one-car crash on Route 2 westbound; state police had jurisdiction. At 11:35 a.m. a caller said a wire was down on Pond Road near the town beach. Police determined it was a phone cable, not an electric line, and was not a hazard; Verizon was notified. At 5 p.m. someone told police the stop sign at the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Slough Road was aslant; the same sign had been reported as down on June 27. The DPW was notified. At 5:05 p.m. an officer noticed a car parked on private property behind a building on Ayer Road and told the driver to move on. At 8:10 p.m. a caller reported finding a baby bunny, which was now in their car. The caller asked to meet the animal control officer at Dunkin’ Donuts.
Friday, July 3
At 10:39 a.m. another person reported the bent stop sign at the intersection of Slough Road and Mass. Ave., and police notified the DPW. At 7:37 p.m. Boxborough police asked for help with a disturbance on Adams Place, which led to the arrest of a 42-year-old Woburn resident for operating under the influence of alcohol. At 8:32 p.m. a 911 caller said a large tree had fallen across Old Littleton Road, and the DPW was informed. At 10:11 p.m. Boxborough police again asked for assistance, this time with a noise complaint on Paddock Lane.
Saturday, July 4
At 3:44 a.m. someone on Partridge Hill Road called 911 to report a fallen tree. At 11:46 a.m. an officer went to help the driver of a tractor-trailer truck who had become stuck in traffic on Fairbank Street because of the Fourth of July parade. At 9:01 p.m. a caller complained of fireworks in the area of West Bare Hill and Still River roads. Police checked the area and found no fireworks activity.
Sunday, July 5
At 2:59 a.m. a 911 caller reported an erratic driver weaving all over Ayer Road and then turning into the Alltown parking lot. Police from Harvard and Ayer responded and found the driver had become sleepy and so had pulled over to rest. At 9:32 a.m. an officer cleared fallen branches from Warren Ave. At 12:47 p.m. a caller reported finding a sick goat, and the animal control officer was notified. At 6:31 p.m. a Woodside Road resident called 911, saying a group of juveniles was climbing on construction equipment in the caller’s yard, but they were gone when police arrived.
Monday, July 6
At 10:29 p.m. a Fairbank Street resident complained that two people had parked in the caller’s driveway and were directing strange remarks at the caller. The parkers drove off toward Littleton, and police there were notified.
