Proud Navy veteran, sales professional, devoted grandfather

Stephen L. Brown, 83, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov, 5, 2024, at River Terrace Healthcare in Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Judith A. (Boland) Brown, and their son, Stephen J. Brown.
Son of J. Van T. Brown and Helen (Eikenberry) Brown, Stephen was born and raised in Rochester, Indiana, and graduated as a standout student athlete for the Rochester High School, Class of 1959. Steve then ran track and field for Indiana University and remained a faithful lifelong supporter of Hoosier athletics. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was assigned to Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and Naval Base Pearl Harbor before being honorably discharged as a commissioned officer, lieutenant junior grade.
Steve began his successful professional career in sales for American Hospital Supplies, before joining General Electric, from which he ultimately retired after many years. He and Judy raised their family in Harvard, where they enjoyed years filled with memories of youth sports and activities, and summer fishing and water skiing on Bare Hill Pond. A devoted grandpa, he looked forward to each season cheering for his grandchildren at their many sporting events and providing almost daily encouragement and communications that his grandkids always loved receiving. He will be forever missed and remembered lovingly as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine Stevens, her husband, Jim, and four adoring grandchildren: Christian, Alison, Luke, and Scarlett, all of Berlin; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, with burial to follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Harvard.
