Francis “Larry” L. Federhen, 92, of Laconia, New Hampshire, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Born on Nov. 24, 1931, in Newton, he was the son of the late Herbert Federhen and Mae Federhen (Miller).
Following his graduation from Newton High School, Larry attended the University of New Hampshire and the General Motors Academy. During the Korean war, he joined the Army but served in the United States because of his expertise in firearm instruction. Following the Army, Larry had a long and successful career with General Motors. Larry shared 25 beautiful years of marriage with his first wife, Gretchen. After Gretchen died, he was blessed with another long and happy marriage with Leslie Hack, who died in 2011.
Larry lived in Framingham before moving to Harvard, where he was an active member of the Snowmobile Club and served as president of the Harvard Historical Society. Larry had always loved the lakes region of New Hampshire, which led him to purchase land on Rattlesnake Island, where he built a vacation home that the whole family enjoyed for many years. He then went on to settle in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Larry loved gardening and all things cars, owning three antique cars at one time. He was a typical car guy and was an active member of PAL Auto League of New Hampshire, serving as president for a few years. His biggest love was his love for his family, always ready with a hug and a smile.
Larry was predeceased by his children, Laura and Eric. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer, and son-in-law, David, of Lancaster; his grandchildren: Derek and his wife, Erin, of Gardner; Gretchen Santiago and her husband, Sam, of Holden; Joanna Benoit and her husband, Taylor Jacobson, of Freeport, Maine; Emma Duncan of Rochester, New York; and Aaron Kent of Boulder, Colorado; along with five cherished great-grandchildren.
