Bunker L. Davis Jr., 77, a longtime Harvard resident, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at Seaside Health Care, Portland, Maine.
Bunker was born in Gary, Indiana, Feb. 15, 1947, the only son of Bunker L. and Taimi C. (Laine) Davis, and grew up in Mercer, Wisconsin. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served proudly onboard the USS Wasp during his years of service. He resided in Harvard for over 35 years before recently relocating to Portland, Maine.
Bunker worked as an HVAC specialist for New England Telephone for 18 years before retiring in 1989 after a spinal cord injury. His remarkable faith, strength, and sense of humor were always an inspiration. Bunker found joy and purpose in dedication to a life of service to his family, his country, and his community as a longtime member of the Harvard Lions Club. His generous spirit will not soon be forgotten.
His wife of 52 years, Marie A. (Amoroso) Davis, predeceased him in June of last year. He was the loving brother of the late Madonna Connell of Wisconsin.
He leaves two sons, Oliver R. Davis (Kellie J. Irving) of Cumberland, Maine, and Benjamin B. Davis (Amanda K. Schuman) of Temecula, California; a daughter, Esther M. Davis of Acton; five grandchildren: Eli Irving-Davis, Dahlia Irving-Davis, Desmond Davis, Maxwell Davis, and Shepherd Davis. He also leaves his nieces and nephews: Laura, Michael and Kristine Connell, Jeffrey Martin (Nicole S. Martin), Andrea Gottschalk (Raymond Gottschalk), and Christina Casey (Reed Casey).
Bunker’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Theresa Church, 15 Still River Road, Harvard. Interment will be held privately.
Bunker’s family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation period in St. Theresa’s Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass.
