Plans for the new heating, ventilation, and cooling system at the Bromfield School have taken a step forward, as Superintendent Linda Dwight reported to the School Committee this week.
On Feb. 3, Dwight signed a contract with GreenerU, Inc., of Waltham, the company that the Massachusetts School Building Authority has assigned to be the owner’s project manager for the schematic design phase of the project. Dwight also said a website will be set up to keep the town informed of progress on the project.
Last fall, the MSBA accepted Harvard’s application to join its Accelerated Repair Program. Under the terms of that program, the MSBA will reimburse 49.5% of the costs of the new HVAC system. But the MSBA gets to assign both the owner’s project manager and the designer.
Thomas Inman and Jody Renouf of GreenerU will work on the study for the heating/cooling pump conversion at Bromfield, as well as evaluate the building’s roof. Under the terms of the 33-page contract, GreenerU will be paid $15,000 for its work at this stage. The money will come from the $200,000 for the HVAC project approved at last September’s Town Meeting. The schematic design phase is expected to be complete in August 2026.
The MSBA has also assigned a designer for the project, IMEG Consultants Corporation in Boston. IMEG operates nationwide. According to Dwight’s report to the School Committee, GreenerU will help in negotiating a contract with IMEG.
