At the Worcester Bar Association Law Day breakfast May 1, Clara Maglothin, an eighth-grade student at Bromfield, received an award and $250 for her winning essay in their annual competition. A different theme is chosen each year by the American Bar Association, and this year’s theme was “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.” All 80 students in Mr. Noferi’s civics classes submitted an essay. The contest was open to eighth-graders throughout Worcester County—and held in towns and cities across the country.
President Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 Law Day in 1958, a day when judges and attorneys renew their oath to uphold the Constitution. Maglothin said watching this ceremony “gave me hope for the future of our country.”
