Ken Swanton of Fairbank Street has defeated Deborah Thomson of Poor Farm Road in Tuesday's Special Town Election to fill the single open seat on the Board of Selectman.
Voters cast 1,351 votes for Swanton and 1,126 for Thomson, a difference of 225 votes. Turnout was 66 percent.
Town Clerk Janet Vellante said the crowds this evening were among the largest she had seen for a mid-term election, but turnout did not match the astounding 89 percent reached in the 2012 Presidential Election.
Following release of the results at about 10:45 p.m., the Press reached out to both candidates for comment, but neither was immediately available.
