Associate Principal Josh Myler will step up to become principal at Hildreth Elementary School as of July 1. Superintendent Linda Dwight announced Myler’s selection for the post in an email to the HES community Friday afternoon.
Myler has been associate principal here for two years and has been active on the School Building Committee in planning the elementary school renovation. Before coming to Harvard, he taught fourth grade and was a grade-level team leader in Bedford. When current HES Principal Sue Frederick hired Myler in 2015, she cited his solid background in math and science, his technological knowledge, and his leadership skills as strong points.
Myler is a graduate of the City University of New York-Hunter College, where he studied elementary education and biology. While in New York, he tutored at-risk students in an after-school program in Harlem.
Frederick, who has been principal of HES for three years, announced in March that she would leave at the end of June, despite having been offered a new three-year contract. Myler was chosen from among more than 30 candidates who applied to succeed her.
