Harvard was named yesterday by Governor Deval Patrick as one of 18 new Massachusetts “Green Communities.” The 18 join 35 other communities named in May, bringing the total number of official Green Communities to 53. These cities and towns are eligible for grants for local renewable power and energy efficiency projects. The Department of Energy Resources notified Harvard that its grant will be $141,200. Harvard residents voted at November’s Special Town Meeting to apply for the Green Community status.
