In the past week, police made 37 motor vehicle stops, six resulting in verbal warnings and 31 in written warnings or citations. Officers also checked on a disabled vehicle, helped someone locked out of a vehicle, performed a well-being check and a mental health evaluation, and responded to one false burglar alarm.
Tuesday, April 8
At 7:48 a.m. there was a minor collision on Ayer Road; no one was injured, but the vehicle was towed. At 5:35 p.m. a 20-year-old Fitchburg resident received a summons for driving an uninspected, uninsured vehicle with a suspended registration; that car was also towed. At 5:57 p.m. an officer told a tree crew on Old Shirley Road to clean up the debris from their work and keep the road passable. At 6:04 p.m. someone reported a large white dog loose on Old Littleton Road.
Wednesday, April 9
At 9:19 a.m. someone turned in a wallet found near Hildreth Elementary School; the owner was notified. At 2:20 p.m. a Depot Road resident called, asking for assistance with an injured rabbit. At 5:12 p.m. an officer saw a hit-and-run collision on Ayer Road and pursued the fleeing vehicle to the center of town but lost it there. At 7:19 p.m. a 911 caller reported a two-car collision near the intersection of Ayer and South Shaker roads; no one was injured.
Thursday, April 10
At 9:15 a.m. a caller said she had been pursued by a coyote while walking her dog near Ayer Road. At 11:42 a.m. someone called to report a bird was inside the public library. At 12:20 p.m. a Fairbank Street resident told police that workers were about to cut down a dead tree on the caller’s property when they found a raccoon was living inside it. In all three of these calls, the animal control officer was notified.
Friday, April 11
At 6:05 p.m. the animal control officer was at an Old Shirley Road property to make sure a fence had been properly installed there. Although people were in the home, they did not answer the door, so the animal control officer called police. An officer came and spoke with the residents, so the animal control officer could complete the inspection. At 10:06 p.m. a burglar alarm went off at a school building; an officer responded and secured the building with the help of a keyholder.
Saturday, April 12
At 3:31 a.m. police notified the Department of Public Works that snow was making roads hazardous throughout town. At 4:48 a.m. a Babbitt Lane resident called 911, saying someone was trying to get in the caller’s front door; police searched the area but found no one. At 8:25 a.m. a 911 caller reported a crash on Ayer Road; no one was injured, but the car was towed. At 7:45 p.m. a caller reported a car driving with no lights on Still River Road; the car was gone when police arrived.
Sunday, April 13
At 9:15 a.m. someone called to report a tree limb and utility line down on West Bare Hill Road. At 10:43 a.m. a Brown Road resident called 911 with concerns about a person who persisted in coming to the house and was acting erratically. At 7:55 p.m. a caller reported hitting a deer on Littleton Road.
Monday, April 14
At 12:39 a.m. a caller said she had seen two dogs on Route 2 and put them in her car; she left her number with the dispatcher, and the dogs’ owner retrieved them. At 1:56 p.m. Harvard police were called to assist Boxborough officers at a disturbance on Swanson Road; a man had been harassing someone in a parking lot there, and the person who was being harassed had blocked him from leaving before police arrived. The police restored peace. At 3:02 p.m. an officer notified the DPW about a large pothole on Old Shirley Road.
