Jazz Night at Bromfield
The fourth annual jazz night will be held at the Bromfield School cafeteria, from 6:30 to 9 p.m, Friday, Feb. 2, featuring Bromfield Middle School and High School jazz ensembles, with a headline performance by Dan Gabel and the Abletones Detect Band. Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for adults, with a $50 family cap and are available at fanfareformusic.org, or at the door. There will be raffle prizes and complimentary food and drinks. Proceeds benefit music programs in the Harvard schools.
Solar options webinar
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m., Mark Durrenberger, founder and president of New England Clean Energy, will discuss how solar and battery systems work together, tax and other incentives, and considerations and challenges for battery and solar installations. Sam Kooharian, energy advisor for Energy Sage, will discuss solar farms, cost savings, and how farms coordinate with National Grid and Harvard’s electricity supplier. Music at Fivesparks

Fiddler and guitarist Suzy Thompson will play blues, Cajun, and old-time music as well as originals at Fivesparks, 7 Fairbank Street, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. Thompson has played with Jim Kweskin, Geoff Muldaur, and Del Rey and will be playing at the sold-out Jim Kweskin extravaganza at the Regent Theater in Arlington on Feb. 4. Admission to the Fivesparks show is by free-will offering, suggested donations are $20-$25 for adults and $10-$15 for teens and seniors; cash at the door. WBN hosts business showcases
The Women’s Business Network will meet Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7:15 p.m. at the church hall of St. Theresa Church (Holy Trinity Parish), 15 Still River Road. A limited number of members will present their businesses in five-minute showcases to give members and guests a way to learn more about other members’ work. WBN is a local volunteer-run networking group of women in small businesses, professional practices, nonprofits and the arts who meet monthly for mutual support, education, and networking. Guests are welcome to attend.
Gospel music trio
The Warner Free Lecture Series will present Suzanne Buell singing traditional and contemporary gospel music Friday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m., at Volunteers Hall at the Harvard Public Library. She will be accompanied by Donnell Patterson on keyboards and Mike Payette on upright bass.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; admission is free. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Harvard Cultural Council.
New moon hike
The Harvard Conservation Trust will have a new moon hike on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Barba’s Point trail, going to the edge of Bare Hill Pond. The hike is less than a mile out and back but has a steep downhill section at the beginning of the trail and climb up on the return.
The new moon creates the perfect conditions for stargazing, as the absence of moonlight allows the stars and constellations to shine brightly.
Park at the Bromfield School and meet at the trailhead near the tennis courts. Bring hiking sticks, flashlights, red headlamps, Yaktrax for snow and ice walking, and dress appropriately.
Woman’s Club fundraiser
On Saturday, Feb. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m., the Harvard Woman’s Club will have a Valentine’s tea and Scholar Awards fundraiser at the Congregational Church, 5 Still River Road. Scholar Awards are given by the Woman’s Club to graduating students of the Bromfield School and Harvard residents graduating from other public high schools who have demonstrated service to the community. Winter Fest
The Harvard Lions and Fruitlands Museum will hold Winter Fest 2024 Saturday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event includes a 5K road race, people’s choice chili and mac and cheese contests, skillet toss, human dog sled pull, knitted hat contest, icicle contest, sun catcher contest, snowflake contest, candle-making, a fairy field, apple cannons, snowman’s glen, a visit from Anna from “Frozen” in the kid’s area, enchanted vendors, and Wassail the Orchard.
