Arm in Arm held a townwide book-read event March 14 in Volunteers Hall. Twenty-eight residents came for a wonderful potluck dinner and discussion of the book “The Far Away Brothers” by Lauren Markham, a book about the immigration of twin brothers from El Salvador.
The timing of the book read, given current events, was very relevant. Those who came were from book groups or were individuals. Not everyone knew each other but it was a welcoming, honest, and safe discussion. Everyone who attended wants to do it again.
We want to thank the library for the space, those who attended for their wonderful food (it was quite the spread), and our colleagues of Arm in Arm for supporting this newest event. We will plan another book read for the fall. We hope others will join in after reading this letter to the editor. If interested in joining the email list for our fall book-read event, or other events sponsored by Arm in Arm, please contact Ellen Sachs Leicher at esachsleicher@gmail.com. Our next event is the movie “Dalya’s Other Country,” which will be aired in Cronin Auditorium, Bromfield School, at 6:30 p.m. April 2. A brief discussion of the film will follow its showing.
