Harvard police made four traffic stops during the past week, two with verbal warnings and two with written warnings or citations. They helped one driver get into an accidentally locked car. Officers also responded to three medical emergencies, with one person being transported to a hospital. Four firearms permits were issued or renewed.
Tuesday, Jan. 18
A caller reported at 3:42 p.m. that a delivery vehicle had struck a tree on Willard Lane. No one was injured and the vehicle was towed.
Wednesday, Jan. 9
A resident at the Bowers Brook apartments called at 3:33 p.m., saying someone was wandering behind the building. Police found a Harvard woman who was searching the area for the missing dog Bella with permission of the building’s owner. At 7:10 p.m. an officer checked on several cars parked at the Ann Lees Road sports field and found the vehicles empty.
Thursday, Jan. 10
A Haskell Lane resident called police at 9:37 a.m. about some workers cutting trees on her property without permission. Police responded and learned that her husband had arranged for the tree work. At 9:24 p.m. a caller from Bolton Road reported hearing voices around a nearby barn. Police units arrived and checked the area but found nothing.

Saturday, Jan. 12
At 2:27 a.m. the burglar alarm went off at a house on Simon Atherton Row, and the occupant called police. A Harvard officer with backup from Ayer checked the house and found a basement door ajar, which had triggered the motion detector, but no other problems. Around noon, a spate of burglar alarms went off across town, perhaps set off by windy weather; police checked each case and found nothing amiss. At 5:09 p.m. a Prospect Hill Road resident called 911 because a vehicle had gone off the road. No one was injured, the vehicle was towed, and the driver received a citation. Harvard police were called to assist Ayer officers with an altercation on Main Street at 10:56 p.m., but the group had dispersed when the Harvard contingent arrived.

Monday, Jan. 14
At 4:30 a.m. Harvard police were again called to assist Ayer after someone broke into the Nashoba Pizza Club on Central Avenue and tried to steal cash from the automatic teller machine there. Someone at the sports field on Ann Lees Road called police at 3:47 p.m. to say that a woman was questioning a group of young people there and taking pictures of them. On arrival, the officer noticed the aroma of marijuana in vehicles belonging to the group, did a field sobriety test, and informed them that marijuana is not legal for anyone under the age of 21. Finally, at 10: 30 p.m. a Trail Ridge resident called to say that someone in a nearby parked car had been playing the radio loudly for half an hour. The car’s occupants had gone indoors before police arrived.
