The following is a summary of the police logs from July 3 through Aug. 6.
During these five weeks, police made 20 traffic stops that resulted in 16 verbal warnings and four citations. They also assisted six motorists with disabled vehicles and three lockouts. Police responded to six calls for downed trees or wires. The ambulance crew responded to 30 medical emergencies and took 25 people to the hospital, seven with Advanced Life Support on board.
Mail theft update
A few months ago Harvard police began receiving reports of missing or opened mail, specifically greeting cards, some of which were known to contain money. The reports gradually increased in mid-July, and reports of missing mail items began to include credit cards. In addition, instances of fraud involving the missing credit cards were reported. A total of 45 reports related to mail theft were made to Harvard police from July 3 to Aug. 6.
An investigation by the Harvard police and the Office of the Inspector General is ongoing. The Harvard police reported that they have identified a suspect for the mail theft as well as additional suspects who may have been involved in attempting to use the stolen credit cards to make purchases. Police expect the case to be wrapped up soon, and more details will be available when charges are filed.
Lost and found summary
A green wallet with a pineapple pattern was lost at Fruitlands July 3. A wallet was lost in the Oxbow parking lot July 10. A bicycle was left at the end of a resident’s driveway for a few days and turned in to the police station July 18. A cellphone was turned in to the station July 27. An iPhone and a DogWatch invisible fence dog collar were found together on West Bare Hill Road and brought to the station August 4.
Monday, July 9
At 1:38 p.m. a 911 caller reported a single-vehicle rollover accident on Ayer Road, which resulted in one person being trapped in the car. The driver was cited for a marked lane violation, and one person was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Friday, July 20
Police arrested 52-year-old Rodney S. Davis of Roxbury and charged him with forgery and attempted larceny by check at Rollstone Bank and Trust on Ayer Road at 5:08 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 24
A Bolton Road resident called at 5:56 p.m. to report that someone had broken into his garage and stolen two nail guns. The caller gave police a description of the suspect, and police located the suspect and recovered the nail guns. They charged 38-year-old William McKenna of Fitchburg with larceny from a building and breaking and entering.
Saturday, Aug. 4
At 11:13 p.m. a caller reported that his wife’s car had been struck by BB’s. An officer checked the vehicle but could find no damage to it.
Monday, Aug. 6
At 7:44 a.m. a caller reported that a car had exited Route 2 onto Ayer Road and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, forcing four cars onto the shoulder of the road. The car was headed toward the center of town, but police could not locate it.
