Rent-a-rower for fall leaf raking
The Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowing team will offer its annual Rent-a-Rower leaf-raking service Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4–5, Friday, Nov. 10 (afternoon only), and Saturday and Sunday Nov. 12–13. Crews of three athletes plus one adult will come equipped with a walk-behind leaf blower, a backpack blower, rakes, and tarps. Price is based on yard size and leaf coverage. Candy buy-back at dentist’s office
The dental practice of Dr. Amparo David, 563 Main Street in Bolton, invites residents to drop off their extra Halloween candy Nov. 1 through 9. For every pound of candy, a dollar will be given to the donor. All candy collected will be given to the nonprofit organization Operation Gratitude, which will send it to military troops serving overseas.
Take home a ukulele!
Two ukuleles were donated to the Harvard Public Library by a Harvard resident. They come as a kit with a clip-on tuner, a soft gig-bag, a chord chart, and a felt pick. Harvard residents, age 18 and older, may check out a ukulele kit for one week at a time. Call 978-456-4114 or stop by the library’s circulation desk to be added to the ukulele reservation list.
Calling all children’s choir members!
All children in grades 2–12 are invited to join this year’s Ecumenical Christmas Pageant choir. No church affiliation or singing experience is necessary—just a love of holiday music. Rehearsals will be on five Sundays and two Saturdays in November and early December. (First rehearsal is Sunday, Nov. 12.) The pageant itself will be Sunday, Dec. 10. NRWA online auction goes live
The Nashua River Watershed Association’s (NRWA) online auction begins Nov. 16 and ends Dec. 1. The auction provides a way for participants to do their holiday shopping while supporting NRWA’s efforts to protect natural resources and provide environmental education programs in 32 watershed communities.

Daylight saving time ends Nov. 5
Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 5, at 2 a.m. “Fall back” by setting your clocks back one hour (i.e., regaining one hour) before going to bed Saturday night. Sunrise and sunset will be about one hour earlier on Nov. 5, than the day before. There will be more light in the morning.
COA newsletter sent to all residents
This month all residents will receive “The Sentinel,” the newsletter of theCouncil on Aging, with a letter and request from the Friends of the Harvard COA. The Friends, the fundraising arm of the COA, support programs for seniors and events at Hildreth House.
Historical Society annual meeting
The Harvard Historical Society will host its annual meeting on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the historic Still River Baptist Church, 215 Still River road. The year’s budget and calendar of events will be discussed. The public is welcome to attend.
