In spite of strong performances by two of its runners, the Bromfield boys indoor track team finished in last place among the six teams competing at the Midland-Wachusett Division D League Championships on Friday, Feb. 3, at Fitchburg High School. The team scored 38 points, nine points behind Narragansett and Murdock who tied for fifth place overall. Ayer Shirley was the meet winner with 125 points.
Seniors Will Day, Paul Chapman, and Jamie Barrett led the boys team for Bromfield with notable places in their selected events.
Day finished eighth out of 23 runners in the 1-mile with a time of 5:05.62 minutes. Paul Chapman took third out of 17 runners in the 600-meter with a time of 1:33.02; and Jamie Barrett ran two races, placing fifth out of 27 runners in the 300-meter with a time of 40.27 seconds and second out of 12 runners in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78 seconds, just 0.49 seconds behind first-place finisher Ben Telicki of Oakmont.
Sophomore Cormac Day was the only member of the boys team to compete in a field event. Day took part in the shot put and threw for 29-09.05 feet, putting him in 26th place out of 28 throwers.
Bromfield boys indoor track has two meets left in the season: the MIAA District E Championships at Fitchburg High School on Saturday, Feb. 11, and on Friday, Feb. 17, the Massachusetts state qualifiers at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Boston.
