The Bromfield girls indoor track team placed a decisive second with a score of 90 points at the Midland-Wachusett League Division D championships on Friday Feb. 3. Littleton won the meet with 118 points. Lunenburg took third with 54 points, followed by Murdock (44), Ayer Shirley (38), and Narragansett (24).
Junior Chloe Alfieri secured a win in both the 55-meter dash and the 300-meter, while freshman Liza Toll and eighth-grader Claire Stoddard placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 55-meter dash. Freshman Tessa McClain faced staunch competition from Littleton’s Kaitlyn Roffman in the 2-mile. Both runners clocked times under 13 minutes, finishing nearly a minute before the next competitor. Along with her second-place finish in the 2-mile, McClain placed third in the 600-meter. Also placing in the distance events was eighth-grader Hannah Beckman, who finished fourth in the 1-mile. Junior Anya Begue picked up points in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing second.
In the field events, senior Grace Turnbull took the win in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. Junior Sophie Beckman was close behind Turnbull with her second-place finish at 4 feet 8 inches.
Bromfield also put forth a solid effort in the relays. Turnbull, junior Cameron Hettich, Toll, and Stoddard collaborated for a second-place finish in the 4×220-yard relay. In the 4×440-yard relay, junior Sophie Beckman, sophomore Mackenzie Curtis, and eighth-graders Olivia Blair and Helena Justicz placed second as well.
The Trojans’ next meet is the District E Championship meet, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 11, at Fitchburg High School.
