This week police made seven traffic stops that resulted in one citation and six verbal warnings. Police also assisted four motorists with disabled vehicles and fielded six calls about road hazards. The ambulance crew responded to five medical emergencies and took four people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support on board. One person refused treatment.
Tuesday, Feb. 16
Police received an emergency call at 12:31 a.m. about a car off the road on Brown Road. Responding to the scene, they found that a car had struck a utility pole. The driver, who was not injured, was cited for failure to keep right and driving too fast for road conditions. The car was towed. At 4:36 p.m. a caller notified police that his car was disabled on Fairbank Street and that he was making arrangements to have it moved.
Wednesday, Feb. 17
Someone called at 1:55 p.m. to report seeing damage to a sign at Carlson Orchards. An officer found that there had been a hit-and-run incident in which a street sign and the Carlson Orchards sign were damaged. Police estimated the damage to be about $200. At 2:57 p.m. a motorist called to report that his car was disabled on Ayer Road. Police went to the scene and assisted with traffic control until a service vehicle arrived.

Friday, Feb. 19
At 10:47 a.m. an officer on patrol observed two teens riding an all-terrain vehicle on Prospect Hill Road and signaled them to stop. The officer advised the pair that ATVs are not permitted on a public way and subsequently notified the teens’ parents, who arrived to retrieve the vehicle. Police advised the riders and their parents about the violations but did not file charges. Someone called the station at 2:32 p.m. to report having lost property in Fitchburg. The caller was advised to notify Fitchburg police. At 5:56 p.m. a caller reported a car being driven erratically on Still River Road near Madigan Lane. Officers were dispatched to look for the vehicle, but they were unable to locate it.
Saturday, Feb. 20
An officer on patrol at 10:02 a.m. noticed that the town-line signs on Littleton Road were missing and notified the Department of Public Works. Someone called on the emergency line at 10:14 a.m. to report being stuck in an elevator at the Bromfield School. Police and fire officers were dispatched and were able to open the elevator and reset it. Police say the cause of the elevator malfunction is not known. At 12:44 p.m. police went to the General Store in response to a call about an accident at Bolton Road and Massachusetts Avenue (see article). At 5:38 p.m. a caller reported concerns about an open door at the house of a neighbor, who was not home. Police checked the house and found everything in order and secured the door. Ayer police called at 10:20 p.m. to request assistance from Harvard officers at the scene of a domestic disturbance in their town.
Sunday, Feb. 21
An officer on patrol at 1:44 a.m. stopped to investigate an occupied car parked at the Prospect Hill overlook. The occupants told the officer they had just stopped “to do a little stargazing.” The officer advised them to move on.
Monday, Feb. 15
At 3:28 p.m. someone called to report a minor accident on Fairbank Street near the old library. Police say it was a “very minor” accident, and the parties were exchanging insurance information when they arrived.
