This week police made six traffic stops that resulted in three citations and three verbal warnings. Police also assisted five motorists with disabled vehicles and fielded 12 calls about road hazards. The ambulance crew responded to two medical emergencies; two people refused treatment.
Tuesday, Feb. 23
At 3:12 p.m. a West Bare Hill Road resident called to report a scam wherein his house was listed for rent on Craigslist.com by an unknown person. Police are investigating. Stow police called at 6:41 p.m. to ask for Harvard’s assistance in locating a Harvard resident believed to have been involved in an incident in Stow. Harvard police were unable to contact the person.
Wednesday, Feb. 24
At 3:03 a.m. police responded to an emergency call reporting a single-car accident on Still River Road. According to police, snowy roads caused the driver of a delivery van to lose control of the vehicle as it rounded a bend in the road, where it went off the roadway into a utility pole. Emergency medical technicians evaluated the driver and reported no serious injuries. The van was towed; no citations were issued. A Haskell Lane resident called at 1:14 p.m. to report receiving suspicious content on Facebook. At 6:01 p.m. a caller reported several vehicles on Route 2 eastbound that had become disabled as a result of potholes in the road. State police were notified.
Thursday, Feb. 25
At 4:43 a.m. a caller asked police to check on the welfare of a Harvard resident. Police say all was well with the relative in question. Someone called at 9:46 a.m. to report being approached by an aggressive dog at McCurdy Track. Police located and spoke to the dog’s owner, who agreed to take the dog back home. A site supervisor at the Trail Ridge Way condominium complex called at 11:02 a.m. to report that someone who was not a resident of the complex had been disposing of trash in the complex’s dumpster. Checking some of the refuse, police determined that it belonged to a Lunenburg resident. They are continuing to investigate. At 11:28 a.m. a caller reported that $730 worth of tools had been stolen from a unit under construction at the Trail Ridge Way condominium complex. The case is under investigation. After receiving a list of outstanding warrants from Clinton District Court, police at 11:47 a.m. arrested Harvard resident Kellie Jo Amburn, 41, on a default warrant for harassment issued by Lowell District Court. Amburn was taken to Clinton District Court for arraignment.
Friday, Feb. 26
A Candleberry Lane resident called at 8:16 a.m. to report a disabled car in the road. Police say the car belonged to a newspaper delivery person, who was waiting for roadside assistance to arrive. A resident stopped at the station at 10:14 a.m. to report receiving offensive material on a cellphone. Police are investigating.
Saturday, Feb. 27
A caller reported a dog running loose near the Bromfield School at 12:39 p.m. The animal control officer was notified. At 5:55 p.m. a caller reported that a dog had been struck by a vehicle on Ayer Road. Police found that the animal was not a dog, but a wild turkey, and they contacted the Department of Public Works to remove the carcass.
Sunday, Feb. 28
A Babbitt Lane resident stopped at the station at 1:57 p.m. to turn in a large bone found by the family dog. Police identified the bone as the spine of a deer. State police called at 8:49 p.m. to ask Harvard police to look for a car at Dunkin’ Donuts that was believed to have been involved in a road rage incident on Route 2. Police did not find the vehicle there but were informed it had left, headed back to Route 2, and notified state police accordingly.
Monday, Feb. 29
At 12:50 a.m. a Still River Road resident called to complain about a dog barking in the area. Police were able to identify the dog’s owner and asked the owner to bring the animal into the house. A Pinnacle Road resident called at 12:05 p.m. to report that someone had vandalized two political signs on the property.
