At 9:03 a.m. the ambulance took a Still River Road resident to UMass Medical Center. An out-of-town couple returning at 1:32 p.m. from a kayak outing at the Oxbow Wildlife Refuge discovered their kayak rack had been stolen from their vehicle, which was parked on Still River Depot Road. A camera recorded the event and Harvard police are now working with police in Maine to track down the thieves. At 1:39 p.m. police were asked to assist at an accident in Ayer involving the serious injury of an Ayer 7-year-old who was hit by a tractor trailer.
Wednesday, June 29
Police were called to Warren Avenue at 3:52 a.m. to deal with a large dead tree fallen on utility lines. A fire officer was called a few minutes later because of sparking wires and remained on scene until National Grid arrived to correct the situation. At 9:34 a.m. a Scott Road man was transported by ambulance to Emerson Hospital. Police were called to an Ayer Road business at 1:38 p.m. when two men without identification presented themselves, claiming to be workers from another company. Police were able to confirm their identities and to verify the legitimate purpose of their visit. A homeowner called police at 8:54 p.m. to complain of a red Volvo speeding up and down South Shaker Road near Stonecutters Path. Police checked the area, but did not locate the car. At 9:40 p.m. an officer on patrol observed fireworks near the Depot Road soccer field but, upon investigating, found nothing.
Thursday, June 30
At 8:34 a.m. a woman was taken by ambulance to Emerson Hospital from a Still River Road residence. A resident stopped at the police station at 12:35 p.m. to ask for advice about a possible e-mail scam. A Myrick Lane resident reported the theft of a check and two cords of wood, allegedly by a Harvard resident. The check was later returned; the case is under investigation. A fire reported on Littleton Road at 9:39 p.m. turned out to be a smoky barbecue.
Friday, July 1
Callers reported at 2:05 a.m. and 6:21 a.m. that sandwich boards from the Common were in the roadway. Police put them back where they belonged. At 6:34 a.m. police gave an Ayer Road walker a ride to the train station in Ayer. Vandalism of a mailbox and a spray-painted message on the road were reported on Littleton Road at 8:26 a.m. A homeowner reported at 9:28 a.m. that a walker on Stow Road was opening mailboxes. The responding officer did not find the walker and observed no mailbox damage. At 9:59 a.m. someone reported that a traffic sign at Old Mill and Blanchard roads had been either knocked down or removed. A Department of Public Works employee saw someone dumping trash while the Transfer Station was closed. DPW Director Rich Nota was notified. The sign at Old Mill and Blanchard roads was again reported to be out of place at 7:40 p.m. Police took the sign to the DPW garage to have it put back in place. An American Girl doll was found at the fireworks show at Fruitlands and is being held in the dispatch office. The ambulance took a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Bolton Road residence at 11:36 p.m.
Saturday, July 2
Police gave an Ayer runner who had run too far a ride home at 10:24 a.m. A walker on Littleton County Road became suspicious when people in what was described as an older car asked for directions to Friendly’s. The walker called police at 4:32 p.m., described the situation, and told police that there were open containers of alcohol in the car. Littleton police were notified to be on the lookout. A Willow Road caller at 9:10 p.m. complained that a police boat was on the beach. A check revealed it was a boat being used by DPW personnel to check water levels.
Sunday, July 3
At 2:53 a.m. an Elm Street caller complained about a neighbor’s barking dog. The neighbor was away; the person watching the dog was notified and took the dog inside. At 6:31 a.m. peace on Ayer Road near Route 2 was shattered when a GMC SUV mowed down a traffic sign in the median, leaving the GMC grill ornament in the road. A trail of leaking fluids continued from the accident scene to the center of town, where it ended. The owner can contact police to retrieve missing parts. At 10:54 a.m. officers on patrol noticed an illegal open fire on Highland Avenue. A fire officer responded and advised the resident to put out the fire, which she did. A homeowner called police at 11:16 a.m. to advise of a stop sign being either knocked down or pulled up at Old Littleton and Pinnacle roads. The responding officer was able to put the sign back in its proper place. At 12:16 p.m. a caller reported seeing spilled paint and painted figures on the roadway on Under Pin Hill Road. The Fire Department was called to spread material to dry out the still-wet paint, which was being tracked by cars that drove through it. Police are investigating; charges may be pending. At 9:01 p.m. a man was transported by ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Littleton Road address. A Prospect Hill Road caller at 9:29 p.m. complained of fireworks noise scaring children. Officers investigated, but found nothing. At 9:53 p.m. a caller on Warren Avenue complained of party and fireworks noise from a neighbor. Police spoke to the neighbor; no further action was required. At 11:04 p.m. a caller reported another loud party in progress on Warren Avenue. Police spoke to the resident; the party had already ended.
Monday, July 4
At 2 a.m. a Woodside Road resident called to report being harassed by a former friend, in the form of a derogatory website. The person was warned not to continue; the offending website was taken down. At 4 p.m. several items left on the playing field during July 4 games were turned in to police and are being held at dispatcher’s office. At 9:46 p.m. police were asked to assist with a car repossession at a Still River Road address.
