Tuesday, February 17: Police responded to a single-car accident at 1:55 p.m. near South Shaker and Ann Lee roads, where a car slid past a stop sign and off the road into a snowbank. The driver, who was not injured, was cited for not stopping for the sign. The car was towed.
Wednesday, February 18: At 6:40 a.m. police notified National Grid after several reports were received about a power outage in the Littleton Road area. Power was restored after a National Grid technician replaced a fuse. At 6:40 p.m. police responded to a single-car accident on West Bare Hill Road, after a driver lost control of the car on the slippery road and hit a tree. No one was injured, and the car was towed. Another accident was reported at 6:50 p.m., when a car slid off the road on Lancaster County Road. The vehicle was not damaged and there were no injuries.
Thursday, February 19: A woman stopped at the station at 11:48 a.m. to report that her car had been “keyed.” Police determined that the scratch mark could have been caused by the car brushing against ice-covered snow. An acquaintance of the Groton animal inspector called the station at 4:31 p.m. to report that the owner of a Groton farm was on his way to a Shaker Road residence with a dart gun to retrieve some of his cows, which had escaped from his farm last year and were being held there. The caller told police that although the farmer had proper permits for the equipment, he was not authorized to use a syringe in a dart gun. Police determined it was a civil matter. A caller reported at 11:45 p.m. that water from a gutter on Town Hall was leaking onto power lines. National Grid was notified.
Friday, February 20: An Old Littleton Road resident called at 10:17 a.m. to report that she had heard a loud crash and had seen three youths, about 12 to 14 years old, running away. She discovered that the lamppost on a neighbor’s property had been smashed. Detective Jack Izzo investigated and tracked down the young suspects after following footprints left in the snow. He discussed the incident with the youths and their parents and agreed that they could make restitution in lieu of being charged.
Saturday, February 21: Harvard fire personnel responded to a request for mutual aid from Devens at 9:19 a.m., when a car fire was reported on the eastbound side of Route 2.
Sunday, February 22: A South Shaker Road caller reported at 2:15 a.m. that a dark SUV had parked at the end of his driveway briefly and then had moved on to the next house, where it stopped briefly before continuing on to the next house. Police found that the vehicle was driven by someone delivering newspapers. At 7:37 p.m. a Bolton Road resident reported that a loud car had stopped at the end of the driveway, and then drove up and down the driveway before finally driving away. The car was gone when police arrived to investigate. At 8:21 p.m. police responded to a report of a car that had spun out on a slippery West Bare Hill Road and landed in a snowbank. There were no injuries and no damage to the car, but a tow was needed to pull it out of the snow. At 9:20 p.m. police responded to another accident scene at Still River and Prospect Hill roads. They discovered a car off the road with its air bags deployed, but the driver was nowhere to be found. They located the Harvard driver, Larry Jackson, 44, at his home and arrested him for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to stop at a stop sign, operating under the influence, and operating too fast for prevailing road conditions. He was arraigned in Clinton District Court Feb. 23; his case was continued to March 27.
Monday, February 23: At 7 a.m. police responded to two reports of someone shooting a BB gun in the Shaker Road area and damaging two cars. One car was found to have multiple holes, and its rear window was shattered. The case is under investigation. Police responded to a single-car accident on Still River Road reported at 7:26 a.m. and found that, due to hazardous road conditions, a car had skidded off the road and hit a tree. The driver refused medical treatment; the car was towed. No citations were issued. At 7:46 a.m. police in Harvard, Bolton, and Stow responded to a report the Littleton police had received about a burned-out car with its windows smashed on Bolton Road. No such car was found.
