A domestic dispute between a Harvard father and son that took place in Groton was reported to police at 10:02 a.m. Police officers went to the Poor Farm Road home to investigate, and requested that the ambulance team take the son to Emerson Hospital for evaluation at 12:30 p.m. A Shaker Road homeowner called dispatch at 6:27 p.m. to report a smoke alarm going off at the house next door. When firefighters arrived, no one answered the door. After gaining entry, they determined the house was vacant and the smoke alarm was defective. A cellphone caller reported an erratic driver on Depot Road at 9:54 p.m. Police located the car, and gave the driver a written warning.
Wednesday, June 27
At 2:40 p.m., the ambulance squad took a Cruft Lane resident to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. The director at Camp Green Eyrie called police to report hearing loud arguing in a boat on Bare Hill Pond at 2:42 a.m. Police investigated, but did not find the boat. A Mill Road homeowner reported “something in the middle of the road” at 6:52 a.m. Police investigated, and found a crumpled beach towel. It was placed on the side of the road for possible retrieval by the owner. A UPS driver called police at 2:03 p.m. to report a suspicious-looking car with two men in the driveway of a Littleton Road home expecting a delivery. After completing the delivery and finishing the route, the driver later reported seeing the box he previously delivered lying empty in the middle of the road. At 10:28 p.m., a Bolton Road homeowner reported noise—possibly a party—in the orchard next door. Police found the revelers under the apple trees and asked them to move along.
Thursday, June 28
At 1:05 a.m., Boxborough police called Harvard for backup with a suspicious car and driver at the Exxon station near the exit of I-495. Officer Healy, backed up by Littleton police, stopped Michael Karpowski, 22, of Ayer, for driving without a license and with illegally attaching plates. In addition, Healy found a warrant for his arrest. Karpowski was booked at the station, and his car towed from the scene.
Friday, June 29
At 8:14 a.m., a resident reported losing his car keys. As fate would have it, another resident called to report finding a set of car keys. Dispatch reunited the keys with the owner a short time later. Police and the ambulance team helped the state police on Route 2 at 12:24 p.m., after a tractor-trailer accident. The ambulance team took two people to the Leominster Hospital. A caller reported a suspicious car in the Bellevue Cemetery at 12:54 p.m. The officer investigating found a man parked on the road, enjoying the view of the plants in bloom. At 1:56 p.m., a Warren Avenue homeowner called police to report vandalism to her car. Officer Healy investigated, and found that all the windows in the car had been smashed. The incident is under investigation, Detective Izzo said. At 7:02 p.m., an Ayer Road homeowner called police to report a stolen jewelry box. This theft is also under investigation. On patrol, Officer Paganelli noticed the basement lights on at the Westward Orchards farm stand at 11:49 p.m. After Sergeant Coates arrived to help, the two policemen secured the building and turned off the lights.
Saturday, June 30
At 7:58 a.m., the Department of Public Works called police to report a man trying to use the transfer station before opening hours and using threatening language. Police later talked to the man in his home at 10:31 a.m. The ambulance team took someone with an injured leg from Bare Hill Pond to Nashoba Valley Medical Center at 8:56 p.m.
Sunday, July 1
Harvard police helped Boxborough police try to find someone shooting paintballs at pedestrians at 7:44 p.m., but they were unable to locate anyone.
Monday, July 2
An Old Shirley Road homeowner called police at 1:52 a.m. after smelling smoke in her home. Police went to the home, and found that the smoke was drifting over from a brush fire on Devens. Harvard police helped Bolton police investigate a hit-and-run accident at 6:54 a.m. A Town Hall employee called dispatch to report the smell of a leaking gas pipe at 9:38 a.m. Police evacuated the building and called the gas company, which declared the building safe a short time later. At 2:45 p.m., three cars collided on Ayer Road, when a Fitchburg woman driving a van northbound was hit by an oncoming pickup truck as she was turning left. The impact spun her van around in a complete circle and the truck grazed another car before coming to a stop. Police gave the van driver a verbal warning before she and her three children were taken to Emerson Hospital for evaluation. A Still River Road homeowner called dispatch at 4:30 p.m. to report her annoyance with another brush fire on Devens. At 5:45 p.m., four firefighters and a brush truck were dispatched to Devens to help with the fire. On patrol at 10:22 p.m., Sergeant Coates found several minors with alcohol near Ann Lee and South Shaker roads. All the teenagers were released to the custody of their parents. At 11:41 p.m., a neighbor called police about a noisy party at an Ann Lee Road home. When he went to investigate, Sergeant Coates found many of the parents of the teenagers he had just sent home.
