The Bromfield girls indoor track team won the District E championship for the sixth year in a row Saturday, February 10. The team finished with 102 total points, 62 ahead of the second-place team, Grafton. The Trojan women have won this title every year since 2002.
Twelve of the Trojan Women’s points came in the two-mile run event. Sophomore Emily Jones completed the race first in 10:56. Margaret Cardenas, a senior, finished fifth in this race for Bromfield with a time of 12:56. Sophomore Lexie Daniells finished in a points position in the 55-meter dash. Her time of eight seconds gave her the sixth-best time in the event.
In each of the remaining four individual events, Bromfield had two finishers earning points toward the victory. In the 300-meter dash sophomore Katherine Finnegan (first place) and eighth-grader Mimi Narbonne (sixth place) finished with times of 43 and 45 seconds respectively. Junior Liz Lee came in first during the one-mile run with a time of 5:26. Eight seconds later sophomore Jennie Ives crossed the finish line in third place.
The next event was the 600-meter run. Junior Bo Dunn and sophomore Maddie Darden swept the top two spots in this event. Dunn had a time of 1:41, while Darden finished one second later. In the 1,000-meter event senior Eliza Ives took the top spot with a time of 3:13. Sophomore Lisa Reedich finished in third place with a time of 3:18.
The Trojans almost swept the relay events as well. In the 4 x 220-yard relay, Bromfield came in second by half a second. The team was made up of Daniells, eighth-grader Kim West, Narbonne, and Finnegan.
The Bromfield team of Ives, Dunn, Reedich, and Darden took the 4 x 440-yard relay with a time of 4:25, winning this event by ten seconds. In the 4 x 880-yard relay, the Trojans finished with a time of 10:24 with a team made up of sophomore Emily Egan, senior Ellen Huber, junior Kat Long, and Jones.
The next step for the Bromfield girls is the state meet. It will take place Sunday, February 18 at 1 p.m. at Reggie Lewis in Boston. The Trojans look to repeat last year’s state title.
