The Bromfield girls indoor track team continued its domination of other teams in the Mid-Wachusett Division C league meet held at Shrewsbury High School last Wednesday, January 24. The Trojan Women finished first with a total of 135 points.
Bromfield took all honors in the 1,000- meter run, with senior Eliza Ives placing first with a time of three minutes and eleven seconds, sophomore Lisa Reedich finishing second in 3:13, and sophomore Emily Egan rounding out the top three with a time of 3:24.
Bromfield underclassmen controlled the two-mile event, earning 20 of the possible 31 points. Sophomore Emily Jones finished in first place with a time of 11:10. Junior Liz Lee cruised into second place 27 seconds later. Another junior, Amy Valladares, took fifth place in the event with a time of 13:4.
Junior Kathryn Kennedy finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdle event. Her time of 11 seconds earned the Trojans another point. Sophomore Lexie Daniells finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8 seconds flat. She improved her time by seven tenths of a second from the qualifying heat.
Bromfield was equally impressive in the one-mile race, tacking on another 20 points. Sophomore Jennie Ives had the best time, 5:36, while junior Kat Long had the next best at 5:35. Senior Ellen Huber came in fifth with a time of 6:2.
Two Trojans took the top spots in the 600-meter run. Junior Bo Dunn, with a time of 1:44, just outpaced teammate Maddy Darden, a sophomore, by one and a half seconds. The pair earned a total of 18 points in the event. A young trio of runners earned 16 points for Bromfield in the 300-meter dash. Sophomore Katherine Finnegan won the event with a time of 45 seconds, and eighth-graders Mimi Narbonne and Kim West finished in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
The girls maintained their domination in relay events as well. Finnegan, Darden, the elder Ives, and Dunn made up the 4 X 440-yard relay team. They finished first, beating the second place team by 24 seconds. In the 4 X 220-yard relay the Bromfield team also finished first with a team made up of Daniells, West, Narbonne, and freshman Kristen Olsson in a time of 2:3. The final relay team for Bromfield finished in second place during the 4 X 800-yard relay race. Freshman Nikki Snyder, eighth-graders Rachel Leicher and Brittany Jones, and senior Margaret Cardenas made up the team that finished with a time of 11:9.
