Beach report
The water at the Harvard town beach is sampled weekly for E. coli bacteria during the dates of beach operation. The results for the week of Aug. 21 meet the standards for use.
The water at the beach is also observed and analyzed using a fluorometer on a weekly basis from mid-July through September. The results on Aug. 22 indicate no harmful levels of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are present. As such, all allowed activities can continue.
The Board of Health reminds swimmers to check water visibility. The state advises 4 feet of visibility when swimming in freshwater ponds.

Restoring riverbanks
The Nashua River Watershed Association is working to create resilient riverbanks to protect water sources in the Merrimack River watershed. A goal is to plant native trees and shrubs in areas lacking a well-vegetated buffer to help reduce water temperatures and erosion and enhance biodiversity. If you live next to such a riverbank, you may qualify for free seedlings. Community health survey
The Mass. Department of Public Health is asking residents to complete its Community Health Equity Survey. Results of this online anonymous survey will help the DPH and communities across the state change conditions adverse to health. This survey asks about access to health care and transportation, physical and mental health and well-being, experiences with COVID-19, housing, education, and work. Loaves & Fishes food pantry
This food pantry, located at 234 Barnum Road, Devens, offers drive-thru access for those needing help with groceries. Hours are first Tuesday of the month, 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and third Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. Upcoming dates are Aug. 25 and 30 and Sept. 5, 6, 8, 13, 16, 20, 22, 27, and 29.
