The need for effective leadership on our Board of Selectmen has never been greater. It is my belief that Ron Ricci would be an ideal candidate to join the board and address the challenges that face Harvard. Ron is a small business owner and a former professional naval officer. The leadership skills that have allowed him to prosper in those roles have already allowed him to accomplish much for Harvard. In his time on the Community Preservation Committee he has stressed the use of funds for actual preservation activities over the funding of consultant reports that produce few results.
As a Water Commissioner he has been instrumental in our efforts to economically upgrade the Town Center’s near century-old distribution system by using town construction resources rather than high-priced contractors.
Finally, as a member of the group that built the Bare Hill Pond pumping station, he worked cooperatively with a wide range of people to get this project done with a limited amount of public resources. He contributed a vast amount of his time and his personal expertise in controls to design and implement the system’s pumping capability.
These accomplishments demonstrate his ability to find practical solutions for issues such as the septic needs in town center, sensible growth of our commercial district to ease the residential tax burden, correcting the inequities in Chapter 70 state aid for our schools, and an equitable resolution to the disposition of Devens.
I urge Harvard citizens to vote for Ron in the upcoming election.
