Family Movie Night
The Harvard Public Library will hold a Family Movie Night Friday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m. with popcorn and water for all. Preregister at the library to ensure enough popcorn.
Ice Cream Social Summer Reading Kickoff
The Harvard Public Library will hold an Ice Cream Social Tuesday, June 28, at 3 p.m. to kick off the Summer Reading Program. Activities will include make-your-own sundaes, face painting, paper airplane making, sidewalk chalk art, bubble blowing, and socializing with friends. Volunteers are needed to help with activities; sign up to volunteer in the Children’s Room. Rain dates will be Wednesday, June 29, and Thursday, June 30. Ice Cream Social attendees are encouraged to bring their own nondisposable bowls, cups, and spoons. As in the past, the library will also still provide disposable bowls, cups, and spoons. The library asks guests to preregister for the Ice Cream Social, so the library can provide enough sweet treats for all and will be able to notify participants in case a rain date is needed. Village Nursery School Ice Cream Social
The Village Nursery School (VNS) invites children ages 2 to 6 years old to cool off and enjoy ice cream and summer children’s activities Wednesday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the VNS playground at 40 Poor Farm Road. The school offers programs for children 2.9 to 6 years old and includes after-school programs and extended-care options. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP by June 27 to 978-456-3993.
Schedule for Harvard’s Fourth of July Activities
The Fourth of July fireworks show will take place at Fruitlands Museum on Prospect Hill Road Friday, July 1. Gates open at 5 p.m. There will be food, entertainment, and patriotic music. A $10 parking donation will support the fireworks fund.
On Monday, July 4, the Great Harvard 4th of July 5-Mile Road Race will start from the Bromfield School at 8:15 a.m. The Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run will start at 9:30 a.m.
The Kid’s Bike-Decorating Contest will take place on Harvard Common at 10:30 a.m., at which time there will also be a reading of “The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America” in front of the old library. The Fourth of July Parade will take place in town center, starting at 11 a.m. It will be followed by field events at the Bromfield School fields at noon.
Tie-Dye Bonanza for All Ages
The Harvard Public Library will hold a Tie-Dye Bonanza Wednesday, July 6, from 3 to 4 p.m. outside at the library. Bring a T-shirt to decorate and rubber gloves to protect your hands from the dye. Preregistration is requested. Volunteers are needed. The rain date is Thursday, July 7 at 3 p.m.
Family Movie Night
The Harvard Public Library will sponsor a Family Movie (PG) Night for all ages, Thursday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. with popcorn and water provided. Preregistration is requested.
Wildlife Nature Photo Contest

Children’s Music Theater at Indian Hill
Indian Hill Music School invites young singers, actors, dancers, and theater-minded kids ages 8 to 18 to be a part of its production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. Registration is under way for Indian Hill’s four-week Summer Day Musical Theater festival, which begins Monday, June 27, and will run weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Indian Hill Music School, 36 King St. in Littleton. The program will wrap up with three fully-staged performances the weekend of July 22 to 24. Before and after care is available. Irish Music at Billiards Café
The Groton Irish Session musicians will meet at the Billiards Café in Ayer on Wednesday, June 22, and every Wednesday, to play traditional Irish music from 7 to 11 p.m. Musicians, singers, and listeners are welcome to join in. Pages for Peace Project Music Benefit
A World Music for World Peace Festival Saturday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. will benefit the Big Book: Pages for Peace Project, Groton-Dunstable students’ record-breaking attempt to build the biggest book in the world whose topic is peace. The festival will feature six live bands, barbecue and beverages, a kids’ activity area, vendor booths, raffles, and more at Lawrence Academy, Shumway Field, Main Street in Groton. Admission is free. Assabet River Morning Walk
Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge and Sudbury Valley Trustees will sponsor a free early morning walk Saturday, July 2, at 8 a.m., beginning at the Refuge Visitor Center, 680 Hudson Road in Sudbury. No registration is required.
Fourth of July Strawberry Shortcake
Caleb Butler Lodge and the Ayer Masonic Association will hold their annual fundraiser at the town of Ayer 4th of July celebration Saturday, July 2, at Perone Park. Their popular strawberry shortcake, as well as hamburgers, sausages, hotdogs, soda, and water, will be for sale. Tattoo artist Mr. Josh will have a variety of temporary tattoos available.
