The Bromfield boys’ outdoor track and field team’s season got off to a solid start with a decisive 88–32 win over Tyngsborough on Thursday, April 3. The team also faced off against Clinton on the same day but lost 44.5–105.5.
The Trojans fared well against Tyngsborough, scoring in all events except the 110 high hurdles. They also scored first place in 14 out of 17 events.
The team lost 12 seniors to graduation last spring, who ranged from distance runners to sprinters to jumpers to throwers. However, younger Trojans are stepping up, especially in the 800 meter run, and the 1-mile and 2-mile events.
Freshmen runners step up
In the 800m, the Trojans took first and second place against both Clinton and Tyngsborough with freshman Will Day taking first and freshman Jamie Barrett taking second.
The freshman distance runners made their mark in the 1-mile as well, with Paul Chapman and Will Day placing first and second against both teams.
The Trojans also had a strong showing in the 2-mile, with junior Price Day finishing first and eighth grader Ryell deRuijter placing third.
The next meet for the boys track and field team is away Thursday against Narragansett.
