Book Fair starts Monday
The Harvard PTO will be running its annual Scholastic Book Fair, Monday, Nov. 17, through Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Hildreth Elementary School library. The Book Fair will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will stay open until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19. New this year: the Book Fair will be open Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public, parents, and friends are invited to attend.
The Fair is a great opportunity to get some holiday shopping done while benefiting Harvard Public Schools. It offers hundreds of titles of books for children in grades kindergarten to 6, as well as posters, erasers, pencils, and small gift items. A full 100 percent of the profit goes directly to programs for students and curriculum-related items for the schools. Contact Diane at debishop@me.com with questions.
Opportunity for veterans in healthcare fields
The Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School has joined with Fitchburg State University and the Montachusett Veterans’ Outreach Council to make it easier for veterans to transition from military to civilian healthcare fields.
Through the “Nurse of the Future” initiative, awarded by the Department of Higher Education to Monty Tech and Fitchburg State, discharged veterans who wish to continue training in the health fields will now be able to receive academic credit for their previous military experience. Veterans interested in pursuing the training are asked to complete a survey at survey.fitchburgstate.edu/2014/veterans.
