Bromfield senior Jake Frackiewicz scored his thousandth point as a boys varsity basketball player on Thursday, Jan. 7, becoming the third Trojan boy to do so. Nevertheless, he and his team lost their home game against the Clinton Gaels, 65–51.

Six minutes into the first quarter, the Trojans had eked out only two points on foul shots when Frackiewicz finally scored for his team with a 3-pointer that pushed his career total past the millenium mark. He was congratulated by the players of both teams, their coaches, his parents, and fans, who greeted his basket with a standing ovation. Coach Ryan Kilian handed him the basketball as a keepsake. Frackiewicz went on to score six more points in the first quarter, while the rest of his team mustered only two. Meanwhile, the Gaels scored 21, with eight coming from Eian Gannon and six from Andy Duggan, ending the period with Clinton ahead, 21–8.
Bromfield scored only eight points in the second quarter but was able to minimize Clinton’s damage by allowing the Gaels just 11 points, three from Gannon and another five from Alex Ortiz. By half’s end, the Trojans were down 32–16.
Bromfield began to turn things around in the second half, with senior Tommy Jackovitz leading the way with 12 third-quarter points for the Trojans. Fellow senior Ben Neville added six points, giving Bromfield a total of 18. The Gaels added just 13 points to their total, with six coming from Brendan Dion. The quarter ended with Clinton ahead 45–34.

Frackiewicz ended his milestone night with five more points in the fourth quarter; his teammates contributed another 12 points as the clock ticked down. But Clinton countered by adding 16 points of its own, six of them coming from Duggan.
With the loss, Bromfield fell to a 3–4 overall record and a 1–2 Wachusett D league record for the regular season. The Trojans’ next game was scheduled at home against Tahanto on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Frackiewiicz is the first Bromfield player to reach 1,000 points since 2003 when David Butterfield hit that mark. The last 1,000-point Bromfield girl was Montana Burke in 2013.
Commented Coach Kilian, “Jake is a humble and unselfish kid on the court, who plays with a lot of confidence. He is a team player and has really been the engine in our vehicle for the past three years. He has a nice feel for the game on the offensive side of the court and is an improving defender. Jake is such an important player for us, and everyone we play knows it. He sees constant gimmick defenses and draws every team’s best player defensively. That being said, he is a kid who does not try to force things on either end of the court and looks to get his teammates involved when at all possible. If anything, Jake can be too unselfish at times.”
