Littleton-Bromfield Tigers varsity ice hockey scored another two wins, the first against Worcester away at Buffone Arena on Friday, Jan. 16, and the second against Hopedale Monday, Jan 18, in a home match at the Groton School. The Tigers now boast a winning record of 6–4–1.
The Tigers crushed Hopedale in an 8–1 match, clearly outplaying their opponents, with 42 shots on goal compared to Hope dale’s nine. Goal scorers were senior Richie Planchet, junior Kris Cecere, and freshman James Peterson with two goals each, and freshman Danny Angell and senior Joey DeCoste with one goal each. Sophomore Jacob Montepeluso and freshman Justin Montepeluso each assisted three goals, with the remaining assists coming from DeCoste, Angell, junior Nick Evans, Cecere, and seniors Nate Dutkewych and Matty Banker. The Tigers have played Hopedale three times this season and have emerged victorious every time.
The Tigers defeated Worcester 2–0 for their first shutout of the season. Dutkewych scored the first goal in the second period, assisted by Angell and Jacob Montepeluso. In the third period Montepeluso went on to score the Tigers’ second goal, tipping a shot from Planchet, who had deflected a shot from senior Brian Johnson.
The game could have gone either way at its start, with no goals scored in the first period. However, the Tigers put more pressure on Worcester in the second and third periods. Defenders supported the offensive line to keep the puck in Worcester’s half, and the offense took advantage of rebounds to pressure Worcester’s defense and goalie and to get more shots on goal.
After losing to Fitchburg and St. Bernard’s, the Tigers celebrated their much-needed wins against Hopedale and Worcester, with the victory against Worcester reestablishing their winning record. The Tigers will face off against Ludlow in a home match at the Groton School Saturday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.
