The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has launched a new recycling resource website, Recycle Smart, at https://recyclesmartma.org. The site has helpful information about recycling, including a handy “Can I Recycle This?” search engine.
Join Harvard Pro Musica this fall!
Harvard Pro Musica, a regional chorus of people of all ages in Harvard and surrounding communities, welcomes new members to sing some of Bach’s most accessible and beautiful music this fall. Get acquainted in open rehearsals Tuesdays 7:30 to 9 p.m. throughout September at the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church. Learn more at harvardpromusica.org.
Flea Market booths available
Booth space is still available at the Oct. 6 Harvard Flea Market. Visit harvardfleamarket.com for more information and to download the booth reservation form. The fee is $50 for Harvard/Still River/Devens residents; $75 for out-of-town vendors. Proceeds benefit the Harvard Schools Trust and the League of Women Voters of Harvard.
Donate your surplus garden produce
If you have extra fruits or vegetables from your home garden or orchard, consider donating the surplus to the Harvard Farmers Market’s Farm to Friend program. The extra produce will be delivered to people in our community who cannot afford to purchase local, healthy fruits and vegetables on their own. Bring your donations to the market tent at the Harvard Farmers Market any Saturday, except Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cultural Council is accepting grant applications
Each year the Harvard Cultural Council, which is part of a network of local councils serving all Massachusetts cities and towns, funds a wide variety of activities, including community gatherings, plays, festivals, arts and science education, and other projects focusing on local history, diversity, restoration, and preservation. Last year the council awarded $4,500, supporting 17 projects in and around Harvard.

Special Town Caucus and Town Election
A Special Town Caucus to nominate candidates to fill the vacant seat on the Select Board will be held Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room. There is a quorum requirement of 25 Harvard registered voters to hold the caucus. Nominations require a registered Harvard voter to nominate a candidate and another to second the nomination. Up to two people receiving the highest number of votes for the open seat will be nominated by the caucus.
Candidates do not need to be present at the caucus to be nominated, but they must sign a nomination certificate by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the town clerk’s office for names to appear on the ballot. If not nominated by the caucus, a candidate may still run by taking out nomination papers from the town clerk’s office. Twenty-five certified signatures of registered Harvard voters are required to place a candidate on the ballot. Signed nomination papers must be filed with the town clerk by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20.
The Special Town Election to fill the vacant Select Board seat will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, concurrently with the state election.

‘Little Women’ film looking for extras
Kendall Cooper, a casting director for the feature movie “Little Women,” parts of which will be filmed in Harvard this fall, is looking for local men, women, and children of all ages and ethnicities to play various extra roles. Cooper is specifically seeking:
- Men with beards and shaggy hair
- Women with natural nondyed hair
- Children aged 1 to 17 years old
